Over exposure shot
 

As is done in so many highlight clips, the shot where the bride is normal then is blown out. How do you do that in post. I've never used that effect and have an opportunity that would go great with it.

what is your nle? i can show you in fcp.

I am using premiere pro 1.5. It is very similar to FCP in it's interface style. Could you decscribe it how you would do it and I can try to adapt it.

basically, what is going on in that transition is an interpolation of three factors:

- blur
- color correction
- opacity of a layer of the same clip in "add" composite mode

so in your nle, you will want to keyframe the clip so that it goes from no blur to blur (blur level at your discretion) while the color correction is keyframed from normal to blown out whites, meds and black levels, while the top layer (of the same clip in "add" composite mode) keyframes opacity from 0 to 100%.

then, you would reverse the process for the adjacent clip to complete the transition.

there are also transition filters that do this, but they are not as tweakable as something you do manually. i'm also quite sure that others have a different DIY way of doing this. it would be nice to hear their take on it as well.

In FCP I use a transition called flash frame, which is similar to a camera flash effect -they may have something like this for PP ...although it's not quite as good as the progressively blown out look you may be trying for.

Sony Vegas has a transition called "Flash" with many presets. It's the one I always use in my pieces. Works great in tandum with big crescendos.
