2 Camera Setup - Cheerleading Competitions

I will be using 1 - 2 Canon XL2s to record video of cheerleading competitions for on-site playback (direct-to-disc, tapeless) and online purchase.

The question I have is this: is it possible to run the video to a console to mix much like television broadcast equipment--with monitors for each camera feed, a mixing station to edit on the fly, and a program monitor to view the mixed result?

Right now we are capturing to disc--directly from one camera--and creating 20 second .avi files for on-site preview for the teams. But I would like to explore the above setup.

Any advice? I've heard of this being done. What equipment would I need and where to purchase?

i do ths for corp seminars and conferences where video needs to be edited and rendered to WMV for network access within hours of teh presentation finishing. 6 hours of footage accross 3 cams jsut doesnt cut it, so i do this...

I hire a lil application called Video Toaster or TriCaster. The newest versions allows for firewire connection, but u need booster pods to retain teh signal past 20metres. Usually im right up front... most of the older units run analogue... Tricaster allows for network connection, which im still learning about as these corps have alot of material displayed and it looks nicer if i an get a direct feed from their laptops...

anyways, its a small form factor PC running these programs and i use a switcher (u dont have to use a switcher though) as it works perfectly with a mouse.

but yer.. it IS possible to do what ur wanting, and at the price of 2 firestores, ud be able to pull this off.. or better yet, just hire the bugger and claim it back on tax

heres a link to tricaster.. its still very full on for me in a live situation which is why i still use video toaster coz i really dont ahve much time to learn tricaster, but when i do, ill be using that instead
