Peter I have the following equipment...

Vx2100
Sennheiser Evolution G2 100
Beachtek DXA-2S
Shotgun ME66

Now when ever I record with the connected mics
of course (in fact from day one)
I get a hiss not extremely loud but it's there?
What's happening?

If you don't know... what would you recommend?

My first recommendation would be to try to isolate the hiss...first disconnect the shotgun...if the hiss remains, it is not likely the wiring of the shotgun.....Do the same with the Senn.....This will help to isolate that as well. Also, be sure the Senn is properly configured as to its programmable signal levels (refer to the manual for this - there is a lot of control in the menu system, but you have to put in a little effort - I found the factory settings were insufficient)

If you are hearing the hiss without the mics connected, perhaps the Beachtek is the cause - or the input / ouput levels may be incorrectly set - input set too high, output too low in order to compensate - giving you poor signal-to-noise ratio.

This may be just a start, but I hope it helps. Good luck.

Can u connect the beachtek to a mixer and lsten to the feed? How about noise then?

What if u connect yoru G2 with teh 3.5mm plug straight into the camera.. ?? do u still hear noise??
theoretically you shouldnt.

Im no expert with teh VX, but i do know Sony cleaned up its act with the audio on it.. so you shoudnt be hearing noise.

Also with the beathtek, when the battereis drain a little, sometimes u might get some fluctuations in input signal. I noticed this on a beachtek mounted to an MX500, but this was a while back and it turned out to be a defective unit (the BT i mean)
Make sure ur using fresh batteries.

with the BT, forget it for a minute and run the G2 straight into it. the kit shoudl have come with an XLR to 3.5 as well as a 3.5 to 3.5. Use the latter and jsut runa dead feed into the cam. Now turn ont eh transmitter but mute the mic. See how that goes.
If u cant hear noise the camra is fine.
If u do, then get it checked. more than likely its the BT
