baseball pospect video
 

hi guys,
I'm shooting a prospect video for a baseball player, who wants to have it to present to some colleges.
I know its not exactely event videography, but has anybody done those type of videos before? and if yes could you give me some ideas about pricing?

I did one of those videos and it is the reason I don't edit other people's work anymore. I was presented a bunch of junk tape of games and asked to edit it into a season highlight reel. It took a LONG time and the shooter's work was not bad in technique, but the tapes were mostly useless. One DV tape had a head clog and half the video (every other head region) was the video that was previously recorded on the tape. Some of the tapes were VHS. It was a disaster.

If you are going to use your own footage, it will be a good video but will take forever to shoot and edit. You will need to attend a couple of games and maybe do some interview footage. That is many hours of shooting and all that tape turns into hours of editing. Think of this as a multi-location wedding with recording of the rehearsal the day before. I would guess in many markets that would start around $2500 and that is a lot of money for a high school student. No matter how easy you might think this will be, I wouldn't do it for less than about $1500 considering you will probably have several days involved in the project.

Not that I've done a college pro-mo tape but I have seen a few and am working on weaselling my way into a gymnastics school and trying to offer that service but anyhow....

One softball video I saw had no game footage just the girl hitting catching and throwing and showing various forms/skills. I think it has some music. I would avoid game footage like the plague because you'll spend 2+ hours trying to get Jr. catching one ball or getting his 1 - 3 at bats. I liked the practice session thing I mentioned earlier, you could get it all in one shot and greatly minimize your time.

That's a good idea, Mike. Game footage is a real pain due to the time involved.

Thanks for replying guys. your advices will save me lot of time and frustration... therefore, I'll present my client (or rather his father) with an appropriate bill; see wat happens...

One idea would be to have the client go through all the times and write down the times in the tape where a clip is that he wants. Make him do the dirty work.

I also had a small project for a basketball video for colleges. I've never done this before so I just did what felt right. Here is a short video. After doing this it gave me some better ideas. I'm now doing a tennis video. I use IMovie for editing.
