SDE/WDE editing in HD or SD?

For those of you who regularly offer and do same day edits and also shoot with HD cams, what does your workflow look like?

I was considering shooting in HD then downconverting to SD on import and editing as I normally would although I don't like the import times. Or I could go with the HD firestore and drap and drop the files, then edit in HD, but I don't like the extra computing power that requires. I could also shoot in SD and Record to the firstore and edit the SDE as normal, which means faster editing and importing, but no option for HD in the future (which is acceptable as all current clients don't have any HD requirements in their contract for now or the future).

What other solutions do you use to cover this? Anybody know if it is possible to record HD on the camera (I will be using a Canon A1) while recording to SD on the firestore?

Thanks

After trying all the routes you just asked about we film in HD and downconvert during capture. We also have a firestore and we tried dragging the hd clips right in and editing, but due to time restraints it just doesn't work, the rendering time is just too much especially if you're going to tweak the image at all. We got it done, but just wasn't satisfied with the results.

If you don't care about the footage being in HD then i would def. shoot w/ the firestore in SD then you can effectively drag and drop which would save you a lot of time.
