Field Work and ENG Setup

I was in a similar situation as Roman in a previous post. My situation was that I decided to begin learning the craft after doing a couple in house projects on a mid to higher consumer 3CCD SD camera. A few weeks ago, I got fairly serious in my research and after seeing some great clips of the XH A1 on this forum, we got ours on Thursday. I also picked up a Rode NTG-2. We had a Rode Videomic for the old one, but I thought the onboard Canon was probably at least as good for omni directional.

I intended to do weddings to start as I have done a few as a still photographer. I was not sure of my "final career choice", but it seemed like a great place to start and an even better way to pay for equipment for any other type of project.

Through a recent connection made in the business, I will be sent on an assignment in the next couple weeks to take a press statement in a situation where we need to be self contained. No XLR hook up, no onstage mics, no tripods (I think a mono is fine). The first location will be indoors. This is basically a tryout for future news assignments. I think it would be more fun than weddings, so I'd like to do well. The gentleman that is giving me this chance is very busy and I can't ask any questions of him. He would also hope I know the answers to the questions I have :)

Does anyone do this type of work? Any advice? Any other equipment we need? Is my equipment in line with the norm? Should I shoot in high def at a wider angle/ further back and crop in post? The A1 has 2 XLRs - should I get a second mic and put it on channel 2 at a different level? I'll be using Vegas 7.0 for this.

Any help would be great

P.S. It will be done in an area that requires press credentials which I will not have until that day, so I can't see what it'll be like until I'm there.
