Help me with the pricing??
 
Hi Guys,

Someone has approached me and asked if I could video tape the celebaration of life for someone. It will be go for 3-4 hours and 300 people will show up.

What you guys think I should be charging this client? help me please. any suggestions?

We need more info than you gave us.....are you editing, how far from home, how many cam ops, etc, etc?

If there is editing which I will asume there will be, I'd start at $1,000.00 and go up from there.

Look at the facility. Talk to the priest. find out everything you can, particularly the reason for being there with a camera. Figure out the complexities, and charge accordingly.

I charge a flat $400.00 for most of the churches in my community as none of them are very large and I figure the cost of dying is big enough already. My main reason for being there is to close circuit the video signal to the parish halls because the sanctuary isn't big enough to accomodate all of the people. I record the event in case someone wants a copy, but that has happened only once. It isn't that big a deal. I arrive two hours early (gives me an hour of peace and quiet to set up) with camera, 4 wireless mics, video projector, video projector, small powered PA, and 100' of S-video and XLR mic cable. Unless there is a full Mass, the event is done within an hour, and 30 min later I am packed and on my way home.

Only once have I done a Celebration of Life for a cancer patient which involved more work onsite. That focused more on interviews with a production process that was intended to be a biographical record. A much different approach with a different production fee determined by specific details.
