Shotgun Mic??

Hi there
I need to replace my Sennheiser Mke300 mic.
Do you guys recommend a better alternative or do I stay with the Sennheiser.
I was thinking about the Rode Videomic.
Using the shotgun mic for wedding shoots, only for outside, I use the Sennheiser Evolution EW100 Radio Mics for the ceremony and speeches.

Thanks guys
Wayne

Wayne, I replaced my MKE 300d with the new Rode NTG1 Mic as my camera has on board Phantom power, the NTG 2 is almost the same but with an onboard battery on the mic. It is a super mic with very good sound and around the same money to buy as the MKE 300d.

Thanks for the reply Paul.
Would the Rode NTG1 Be suited for the Sony dCR vX2100 camera?
I'm using the NTG 2 as a wireless set up in the wedding ceremonies.

I use the Rode Videomic and seriously impressed with it - the battery lasts forever, almost zero pick up of wind noise, and crystal clear voices.

No the NTG1 won't work with the VX2100. As the VX2100 doesn't supply 48v phantom power, which the NTG1 needs.
I would recommend the NTG2 in this case, as it runs on battery power, and works great.

Do you pick up much noise from the camera using this mic though?

No not really, as long as you use a good shock mount, then you're golden.

The Rode SM4 is excellent with either the VX2100 or PD170, as you have nice isloation and directional latitude for using it with camera or boom mounted.

The Beyerdynamic EA86 is a great low profile mount, pretty much for on camera use only.

Both highly recommended.

If possible, try to get the mic even further away from the camera with same sort of standoff shoe adapter (this is just to avoid possible tape mechanism noise).

Pag 1020 Short Extender Accessory Arm (nice low profile accesory arm). nice with EA86.

I use the J-Rod along with the Beyerdynamic EA86 with my PD170. Much better sound isolation than just the built in shockmount.

All should help.
