Blue tint

I'm trying to get that blue soft edge look and not getting it figured out. The look I have seen is a rich deep blue with about a 20 or 30% opacity. I'm using FCP with most all of the Nattress filters. Appreciate your suggestions.

Try the FCP filter RGB balance. That way you can pull down the red and green channels and boost the blue in just the midtones, as an example.

Thanks Patrick. What is the best approach in keeping my tint selection in the outer portions of the image?

Hmm, I would try using one of the shapes in FCP, something like a circle or oval, turn the softness up, and then play with the blending modes. Not sure if that will works, thats just what I would try.

Or, and this should work, apply your filters ot how you like it, then apply a matte to only show the out edges. Duplicate the clip and put them on top of each other. Then delete the matte from the bottom clip so it shows the whole thing except you will still have the blue tint overlay on the outer edge. You could then adjust opacity to your taste.

Thanks. Appreciate the input. I'll play with it some and see what i can come up with. I just wish you could change the color on the soft edge filter but that would be too easy.

John,

I just tried Pat's suggestion. Used the soft edges filter (with the invert box checked) and RGB filter with blue midtones boosted on the duplicate clip on track 2. Works great. Thanks, Pat for the tip. Thanks, John for the thread.

That is encouraging. I finished up another project this evening so I will give it a whirl.
Thanks,
John
