Big problems rendering in Vegas 7

As the title states I'm having trouble rendering my projects. I'm a newbie in Vegas so pardon me if there is a simple fix to my problem and I'm simply a moron ;).

Whenever I try to render my project as an uncompressed Quicktime 7 file I get this message at around the 53% mark: An error occurred while creating the media file. An error occurred while writing the file. Make sure you have write access to the file/folder and that there is enough free space.
My external hard-drive has 180GB of free space so I don't know what Vegas is trying to tell me.

After this I tried rendering an uncompressed AVI file, again to my external hard-drive. This render completed, however when I view it, it acts almost like a slideshow, it's that slow. I repeated the render process this time to my main hard-drive, same thing. What am I doing wrong?

My footage is 24f from a Canon XH-A1. I used the 1440 x 1080 HDV-24p template when capturing, and rendered at the same resolution.

My comp specs are:
Duo Core 6600 2.4Ghz
2 Gigs of Ram
Nvidia 7950 GT

Please Help!

Thanks in advance,
Ian Cameron

Rendering something out "uncompressed" just tends to take a lot of disk space and won't play smoothly because of the huge data that needs processing. You even speak of HD resolutions and that only enlargens the problem. You should decide how you want your project to be shown: DVD, Blu-ray, the web? Once you know where you want to go; look up some information and you can pick the right compression for the media (perhaps you'll find presets in Vegas too).

I've always found rendering/compressing a difficult trial-and-error process; but once you've tried more stuff out you'll likely to grow better in judging which way to go.

Heat is a very common cause of failed renders.

Well I've now tried the CineForm HD codec when rendering. Now, when I try to play the .avi file my computer locks up and makes a constant beep sound. The only render I have gotten to work well was rendering to ntsc widescreen as an avi. Any suggestions as to why I can't view hd renders?

I don't have much experience with HD but it could be all kind of stuff. Have you tried playing the file with VLC mediaplayer? I've found that where all other mediaplayers fail VLC often gets it right.

Download VLC here if you haven't tried: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

I'm having the same trouble in Vegas with the same error. Every time I try to render an uncompressed QT it says:

an error occurred while creating the file

any ideas?

I take my avi files and use avs media to convert to Quicktime, or whatever, and they come out just fine.

Does this compress the file?
