m2v and ac3 into Vegas - how?

I've picked up four m2v and ac3 files from a web site which put them there for me to get.

However, they are not seen by Vegas 7 as media files, and cannot be opened by Vegas.

I want to bring them into Vegas to be included seamlessly in a project. Apparently they can be opened by dvda but I don't just want to put them on a dvd, but on my timeline as part of something else.

What do I do?

I've gone back to the folks who made them available to me but they may not get my email till Monday, or may be asleep. I would like to work on them tomorrow.

Any help would be appreciated.

The only thing you can do is do to burn the files to a DVD and then import them back into Vegas using the "File - Import - DVD Camcorder Disc" function.

Does renaming the video to mpv or mpg help?

Vegas will not read AC3 files (maybe in version 8-hopefully) so the best thing to do is play it into Vegas just as if it were a tape. Use a pass thru from the DVD player to the pass thru thru the FW connection to the computer.
I do this frequently and now you have a complete AVI file to work with. No loss of quality either - at least none that I have detected.
