Migrating from Prem Pro2 to Vegas.

I have a newbie question regarding importing 1440*1080 HDV video into a 720*576 DV project (PAL - Vegas 7).
Vegas seems to rescale the HDV footage to fit within the DV frame. I preferred the Premier way where the HDV footage coming into the DV project stayed at it's normal resolution. I would then either pan and scan or scale it back by 53.4% to fit within the DV frame.

The event pan/crop tool is counter-intuitive for me (well that's my excuse and I'm sticking with it). Is there anyway to emulate the Premier method of keeping files at their original size without vegas rescaling them automatically?

Track motion

There is also "track motion" control on the tracks you may want to try.

Try opening the track motion control and right-click on the frame
in the workspace and select "match output ratio".

Then use the track motion control to "zoom in" on the clip so that
it "feels like" PP2. This affects all clips on a track - you can then use the pan/crop tool on the individual clips to move around in the frame.

You should be able to do it all in pan/crop.

Some notes...
A- You can type in 720x576 or 1440x1080 as the width and height.
B- Vegas will try to make the pixel aspect ratios match between HDV and DV (they are different). You can disable this, though I don't see why.
C- There is an option somewhere that is called something like fit to fill frame.

Thanks for the tips... cracked it!
I love the layout and the way Premier is organised, but it's always been as buggy as hell for me across several versions and PC platforms. I just got sick of it screwing up files, crashing etc.
