Weird startup error in Vegas 7.0

1 Attachment(s)
I am getting a weird error when starting up Vegas 7.0

An exception occurred while trying to run "C:\PROGRA~\Sony\VEGAS7~1.0\vegas70k.dll._SonyDxGrovel@16 18303744;SonyDxGrovelEvent;SonyDxGrovelMap;0x498"

When I acknowledge it, then Vegas goes on to start normally.

It only does this once per session (basically it logs the error and skips it the next time it starts).

However, my audio effects look funny. Instead of showing the plugin name, it says "unregistered" (see attachment)

I think that this is due to the presence of an incompatible DirectX plugin somewhere on my system, that makes Vegas abort the process of detecting DirectX plugins.

How can I go about finding it? Is there any way to turn on logging while Vegas starts? Has anyone else seen something like this?

Thankfully I have NOT, as of yet, seen this one. Nasty! Horrid!

I notice you have posted this same result elsewhere too. Do a search there and you will not be a happy chappie. It would appear this has something to do with wayward DirectX, registry failings and so on. But I let you read the whole nasty story.

Gian, I shall watch your development with interest.

Grazie

Solved...

Well, after several hours comparing DirectX plugins on two machines, installing and reinstalling, rebooting, etc. I think I may have fixed it.

Through the forums dedicated to the CCCP codec pack, I came across a reference to this program: http://paul.glagla.free.fr/filmerit_en.htm

It is a freeware DirectX audit program.

I ran it, it found 9 errors, mostly related to Intervideo DVD playback software installed by default on my laptop. I pushed the "magic button" to let it fix/delete the offending DirectX plugins, rebooted, and...

Vegas works perfectly now. In fact, more smoothly than ever before.
