Copy a complete set of settings?
 

I have applied a bunch of filters to a video track (several curves, levels, saturation) , how do I grab the whole set and save it and then apply it to another set, did it once before and cannot remember how I did it or how to reload the set from before. Luckily, I know where the saved file is :)

Copy the clip (control + C) and then right click on the event you want to copy the filters to and click on Past Event Attributes.

I think that should work.

OK, another question, what if the settings were on the track level? and also if I wanted to load my previous settings how can I do that?

Try saving them as a filter package.

I'm not sitting in front of Vegas right now but off the top of my head you go to the filter selection dialogue box and there you can save a chain of filters and their settings as a kind of 'super preset'. You can then use that package anywhere you like - track level, event level or media level.

I sometimes do this so I can make minor tweaks to different settings, saving each chain as a filter package then applying the different packages to the same clip, duplicated several times on the timeline so I can compare different combinations without the need to tweak 'live' (and therefore have to look away from the preview).

I'm working on a series of videos for T-Mobile, each of which has a title sequence that contains different footage but heavily stylised the same way each time for a consistent appearance across the series. Perfect application for filter packages.

how do you save a package and then apply it? I think I did it once and ended up with a .sfv file, but cannot figure out how to load it or do it again?

Go to the Plugin Chooser, select your filters as normal. Click OK to return to the timeline and tweak the filters to your liking. Go back to the plugin chooser, click Save As, name your filter package and you're done.

To re-apply that package, go to the plugin chooser and in the leftmost pane you'll see a tree with Filter Packages sitting below the main FX level. That's where they are. No idea where they are stored in the Windows directory structure but that's where you'll find 'em in Vegas.
