Does Vegas support the EX1?
 

Does Sony Vegas support editing the files from the upcoming EX1 camera?

If not, are there workarounds like conversions or the use of cineform or something of the kind?

Vegas does support the full 1920 x 1080 stream. Already.
Workflow is thus:
SxS card in computer or card reader, Xfer files to HDD.
Open HDD in Vegas Explorer, start editing.

Sony makes both products, one would hope they could get them to work together properly.

Douglas, am I reading this right? No conversion (.mp4 to .mxf) via Clip Browser tool is necessary? Would be great if that's the case.

Vegas supported the EX before the EX was even born.

Yes, the MP4 has to be converted to MXF, but it's done on the fly during the Xfer. Xfer is about 4:1, with realtime re-wrap. In other words, an hour of media from the SxS card takes about 15 mins to Xfer including re-wrap. Xfer without the re-wrap takes about 14 mins or so.
Vegas reads the files at 1920x1080.

Just so I'm clear about this, how exactly is the transfer done: via the Windows file manager, or something in Vegas, or some software which comes with the camera? Thanks.

Conversion is done with the browsing software. Figure approx 15 mins for 1 hour footage, including the re-wrap.

This information is very improtant to me as I am seriously looking at these new cameras. Of course, I use Vegas (v7.0 at this time, but will upgrade if it does not support the formats).

I will wait for the z7 low light real world feedback and would like to decide if to get w/c one would suit me better. It's just that the 1/2" of EX1 is very appealing. I have not worked with such files so I want to be sure that it will work with my NLE.

I can't seem to get my EX1 files into vegas pro 8 timeline without first opening clip browser and exporting as mxf.
How does Vegas pro 8 do it "on the fly."
Here's what i'm doing,record footage,plug cam,via usb into pc,open up "my computer",i now hav 2 more drives,(cam drives),copy BAPV to "my documents",>"my videos",unplug cam.Now i can view these files in clip browser but not in vegas,when i "import" i can see the files/folders but can't open them.Am i doing it wrong ?
Please could you explain it step by step.
