DVD to AVI

Is there a way to rip a DVD to AVI format for editing in Vegas 6.0?

Or do most of you guys use a separate program for that? If so, which one?

Thanks.

As long as it's not a copyrighted disc and you have at least 6.0c, go File - Import - DVD Camcorder Disc.
This works on full size DVDs as well as the mini DVDs.
Be advised that, depending on the size of the disc, this may take awhile so be patient while Vegas does it's thing.

Unfortunately I am using an older version of Vegas so it wont work. Do I have any other options? Maybe software that would rip a DVD to the .AVI format for editing purposes?

The footage I am trying to rip is not copyrighted, it's home videos on DVD.

Oliver, you said you're using Vegas 6 (or do you mean Movie Studio 6??).
This feature was added in the 6.0c update and version 6 ended at 6.0d.
If you haven't updated, this feature alone is a good reason for doing so.

Sure it will. The option was added in 6.0c. Just update to the newest version of Vegas 6 which is 6.0d.

DVD to AVI

Oliver,
Get M2CONVERTPRO(www.m2convert.com): select BACKUP DVD TO FILE.
Open Vegas and insert the converted file(.avi format) in the timeline.
Edit the file and render it the format you want.
I use M2CONVERTPRO to select music clips( from my DVD collection) and burn DVD with only those clips I enjoy listening.
Good Luck.
