How to deinterlace 50i to 25p?

This is my first attempt at trying to get a so called film look with Vegas. I gathered I could try deinterlacing from 50i to 25p (PAL land). I am not sure what are the steps.

Do I open a 1440x1080i 50i project, then render out as something to work on? Say selecting progressive mode or something when I render to mpeg2 for DVDA4?

It didnt look that good. Footage was shot with DOF adapter and some CC was done but it was limited really.

In the project settings, choose your normal 1080-50i

Then change the field order to "progressive" and the de-interlace method to "interpolate fields" then whenever you render, make sure the field-order is set to progressive.

This will de-interlace 50i to 25p on-the-fly in Vegas. Well atleast it works for 60i to 30p, I'm assuming it does it just as well for 50i to 25p.

In the preview window you have to use certain settings for it to actually preview progressive.

"Preview - Half" and "Good - Full" work for me. "Good - Half" and "Preview - Full" give me an interlace look.
