Network Rendering (what is wrong)

Is there a guide somewhere to fully understand the network rendering option? I have Vegas 8 on 3 computers and all have the network render application started. I'm able to see the other clients in the drop down menu when the network render box pops up. Whenever I try to distribute the render it says queued on the clients computer whereas on the host it says the clients are "working". Seemingly it looks as tho the client computers are not "working".

If I change the host to any of the other computers then it will start working on the host only. How do I get them to shake hands? There's got to be something simple I'm not doing correctly. I've got my paths set up to share the same drive (f:\render) for the host (hostcomputer://f:/render) for the clients. Thanks in advance.

You might try reading through this thread:

Matter of fact I already have. I don't understand any of what that guy is saying and was wondering if anyone on this particular forum has any experience with it that could explain it to simpler. I'll re-read for the time being tho.

I think the problem is with the way Vegas looks for domain names. I finally got my networked render farm working by doing the following:

1-right click on my computer and select PROPERTIES
2-select COMPUTER NAME tab, then click on CHANGE
3-when the name change window opens, click on MORE
4-enter a name in PRIMARY DNS SUFFIX, then use this in the setup

Yes I have changed the name.

It does not seem to be in name resolution issues but rather it seems like it's trying to figure out where all the files are located. Before I changed the name like your advice it would say failed on the client computers. Now it says queued on the clients yet never starts "working" like the host.

stupid question: are the files / folders set as shared? Sorry for the "is it plugged in" idea!

Roger Akers December 19th, 2007 11:50 AM

Yes everything is shared and I BELIEVE the paths are correct in the vegas network renderer. I've been trying to figure this out since i started the thread and still no luck. I can see that all my clients are ready and sometimes they say queued, or working and they always fail.
