Auto Save V8
Quite some time ago I enquired about autosave for Vegas and downloaded Edward Troxel's script - but never got around to installing it.
Last night after working on a project for hours and forgetting to save, the computer crashed - coincided with me hitting a key in quick succession. I couldn't even switch the computer off - had to pull the plug. I thought I had lost all my work, but hadn't as on restarting Vegas I got asked if I wanted to open the file that had been open at the crash, but then should save it under another name. I did and had lost only a few minutes. I then installed Edward's script, but now ask: "Clearly there is some sort of autosave in Vegas or I wouldn't have been able to get the file back as I did. What is the difference between this and your script Edward?" Another disturbing thing is now occurring - could it be associated?. My computer just spontaneously shuts down with a click. It's a new computer and has been going perfectly, but now some gremlin is in the works. :-( |
Here's the main difference between my Auto Save and what's built into Vegas:
Vegas will save your current file and will create a .BAK file (which is basically your previous save). It will also do an "auto save" into a temp folder periodically. If you save properly, this goes away. If it crashes, it will attempt to reload from that file. My Auto Save will literally SAVE the project every X minutes (you can specify the timeframe). It will also keep a running series of back up files that have the date/time appended to the file name. This way you can go back to any particular period of time. It can also save into a separate folder (which can also be on a different drive) giving you another layer of protection. You'll end up with many VEG files but you'll have much more protection against lost info. |
Thanks Edward. Your script will I imagine save me in the future. Appreciated.
Looks like the switching off is a power supply issue - new one being sent. |
