Vectorscope, Waveform, Histogram, and Parade Video Scopes

Hey guys,

I've been editing for a while, but one thing that's new to me is the Vectorscope, Waveform, Histogram, and Parade Video Scopes found in Vegas. I never knew they existed until I tried Vegas. I know as much as that they are used to accuraltely see the range of a videos broadcast legitamicy...or something to that effect.

Anyway, my question is, are there any good texts online, or text books I can buy to learn how to use these tools?

I'm no expert but I bought 'Color Correction for Digital Video' CMP Books DV Expert Series, by Steve Hullfish and Jaime Fowler. It is pretty good. Seeing your post made me get it out to take with me on holiday. I need to get a grip on this stuff better myself.

Available through Amazon

check out the VAAST site-I think thee are some tutorials there. Also I believe Glenn Chans Color Correct for Vegas DVD (VAAST) goes into the use of some of those tools.
You could also just Google those and I'm willing to bet you'll get some pretty decent tuts on them.

Anyone thinking of buying Steve Hullfish's book should be aware that a second edition is about to be published (18th January).

Thanks Ian -- here's our DV Info Net Amazon Affiliate Store; I've added this to the top of the list.

Tektronix (most reknowned manufacturer of real bench-top vectorscopes and waveform monitors):

A lot of useful detail - basically an on-line book. Though intended for NTSC, much of the information applies to PAL. Also some of the content is unnecessary because it relates to signal components that are discarded when imported to the computer or don't exist in the first place if the video is recorded digitally.

Any idea how much this overlaps with the 'Color Correction for Digital Video' since the book must be more than just 2'nd ed. because of the name change (or had they change the nema because they changed the publisher also?)?

I do have the initial book and love it very much but all extra info on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Matti, sorry but you know as much as I do - I just happened to come across the book while browsing Amazon. Actually, you know MORE than I do as I haven't got the original book!!

Cheers,
