Am I the only one let down with Vegas I/O is only 8 bit?

I really like Vegas and I prefer to stay, but I might bail for 10 bit I/O.

I'm using the Sony PMW-EX1 and would like to capture 10 bit 4:2:2 via SDI.

I believe Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 offers 10 bit I/O. Does anyone know if this statement is correct?

The SDI output on the PMW-EX1 may be 8-bit or 10-bit. I think folks are telling me it's 10-bit?? Anyways let's assume it's 10-bit. You should be able to use an Aja or Decklink card to capture the live SDI signal off the camera (check the hardware requirements, compatibility, and driver compatibility very carefully).

The recording format itself may be 8-bit Y'CbCr. So if you record on the camera and take the files into Vegas, I believe it's 8-bit Y'CbCr values that got recorded. You get slightly extra precision if you process that via Vegas' 32-bit mode (it's probably not noticeable in practice).

regardless of what bit level is recorded by the EX1, BY DEFINITION, the SDI output is 10-bit, 4:2:2. Now,, it may well be that the space is filled with 8-bit 4:2:0 info, but the stream has to comply with the HD-SDI spec.

About a month ago, Barlow Elton sent EX1 SDI captured files to David at Cineform, it's been confirmed by Cineform and again recently by Sony that the EX1 is using all 10 bits, not just 8 out of the 10.
