dual layer discs ?s
 

Good Morning,

I have a film of a hockey game that is 7.3 gigs. I thought I would just burn it as a dual layer disc but I am having some troubles with it!!!

Where do I dedicate the program to burn a dual layer disc??

Fitting to disc will not work!! deegrades to much.

I got one burnt but it starts playing at the midway marker instead of the start of the disc. I had used burn whole movie, not a menu.


some guidence on burning dual layer discs would be helpful!!

Darn, I hate to ask the obvious but you are using a dual layer disc,right?

In DVDA my understanding is that you must have a chapter at 50% of the footage and that chapter must be present on your menu as a scene selection.

Yes it is dual layer, funny however was I bought a stack of them, drove the 50 miles home, and found the dual packaging had singles in it!! they replaced them, but it cost me another 35 dollars in gas and 2.5 hours of my time to replace them!!

I am burning the dual layer disc at this minute, with a chapter marker in the middle. I did not make a scene select as I just wanted a straight play.

If it doesn't work this time I will make a menu and place a marker on the menu as well and get back to you!!!

I have learned alot about architect today!!!!

You are correct, you need to have a chapter marker in the middle!!
Mine works just fine!!!

new issue: the resolution looks off. I shot it with an xl2 and burnt in it ntsc widescreen (as I shot in wide screen), which makes the pixel ratio 1.2. It appears that I should have burnt it in ntsc dv 720x 480 and skipped the wide screen.


what exactly does changing bit rate from 4 to 8 actually do to the project??

What software are you using? Are you going Vegas--->main concept mpg--->DVD architect pro?

I usually run my DV AVI's through TMPG express 4.0 (or even good old TMPGenc) then put those Mpeg's into TMPG's DVD Author 3.

Oddly, I've never had to put a chapter stop at 50%. Perhaps TMPG is doing it automatically, but I've never done it by hand. The dual layer discs even work in my crappy old DVD player from 1999.

Also, you should have widescreen project, then render out to widescreen, and in your authoring program, just tell it that you want 16x9 image and 16x9 menus. It sounds like you're thinking of letterboxing it. As long as you burn it right, your DVD player will letterbox it automatically if need be.

Doubles it in size? You don't need a chapter marker in the middle, DVDA will prompt you if it needs one.

first, thank you everyone for the responses to date!!

Douglas, The program did prompt me to place a Marker. When I rebuilt this morning I place a dot in the let the program choose.

I built the game with a menu for the periods and highlights. All went well.

I rendered it and burnt it in standard ntsc dv to see if that gets rid of the pixelated image I got in the 1.2 wide screen.


Question: My gl2 letterboxes, hence I must render in 4:3 dv I get that.

My xl2 shoots native 9:16 ws.

What happens if I render in regular dv or 16:9

In my adobe premiere pro or elements I never had anything like that happen. Makes me wonder if I messed up a compression setting or something along the way!!!
