How to split one stereo channel into two mono channels?

I've got a hundred or so mpegs where I need to work with the channels separately. Is there an easy way to split the stereo channels to invidual mono channels for mixing? I'd rather not have to copy/paste each track and pan. Ideally this could happen as I import the media rather than having to do it every time I bring it to the timeline..

Any ideas?

Edward Troxel has a script on his site called stereo split that does this automatically.
The media has to be on the timeline for it to work but, since it's a script, it's very quick.
