Vegas 8.0b does not recognize .m2t files?

I just got Vegas Pro 8.0b, but when I try to import .m2t HDV 1080i files, it does not work. What's wrong?

If it's not registered/trial version, you won't get MPEG read/write capability. This opens/unlocks with a registration key.

It is registered though. Still unable to import .m2t.

What is the source of the m2t file?
Are you importing straight from camera? Or from a drive that someone else captured to?
You're using the correct capture utility, yes?

Alex Thames April 6th, 2008 11:56 PM

Source of .m2t is captured from Sony HVR-A1U and Sony HVR-V1U cameras using HDV Split 0.77. Even my old .m2t files that I used with Vegas 7 no longer work with Vegas 8.

Importing from the hard drive that I personally captured to. It went from Camera's Mini DV tape straight to hard drive via Firewire. I am trying to import that raw .m2t file from my hard drive to Vegas 8 timeline.

Many posters on this board have reported various problems with files capped via HDVsplit in Vegas. I don't use it, but best explanation I saw said that HDVsplit puts some trashed frames at the head and/or tail of captures.

A search in this forum will turn up more info - but that's the gist of it.

If you're desperate for a workaround for files already capped and don't want to recap, it might be worth looking at womble to process already capped files with no gen loss. I'd just d/l the trial version and chop a couple frames off head and tail and see if it works.

I've used HDV split with Sony Vegas 7 perfectly, but it seems Sony Vegas 8 does not recognize. I still have not been able to solve this. Any other suggestions?

To add to your pain I can tell you that HDVSplit works totally OK for me with VP8b. I've captured both HVR-A1E and Canon XH-A1 HDV-material w/o any problems. I use Sony HVR M15 deck for the capture...

I removed ffdshow since it seemed to cause some unstability to the setup (Windows Vista 32-bit).
