japanese ntsc capture (canon hv20)

Hi all

Wondered if any of you UK vegas users capture ntsc footage (canon hv20) into vegas for ouput to DVD.

Are 1 or 2 below correct assumptions?

1/ So with 24p mode no problem. capture into vegas, edit, render as a PAL stream and then burn to dvd using Dvd architect.

2/ With 1080i mode, tell vegas its an ntsc capture
(it should do the hard work) , edit, render as a PAL stream and burn to dvd. but image quality may be impacted converting from ntsc to pal.

I ask because japanese ntsc canon hv20 models are selling in uk at £100 less than pal models.

thanks much
