Monitor color calibration

What do you use to calibrate your monitor? I've been looking at the x-rite...anyone have experience with this or others?

Application of monitor calibration tools like Spyder, x-rite, r any other is irrelevant to the color grading of video images. The reason is that these spectrophotometers are designed to map screen colors to somewhat match the colors you will achieve on your photo printer. These color mappings are a far cry from the RGB colors used by video. Moreover, NLE's use color overlay timing which supercede the color timing provided by monitor color profiles.

Thanks, Bill. You likely just saved me a lot of trouble for nothing...

Hello,

I can attest to what Bill said. I have a Pantone Huey Pro that works great for my photography work but sucks for NLE.

I have used video calibration DVD's to calibrate HD televisions and projectors. Would these work to calibrate a computer monitor for NLE?

Thanks.
