Nvidia CUDA - What does this mean for us?

Seemingly this thing will render at way faster speeds than even a quad core. I got quoted that cobverting a BluRay H264 took 20mins as opposed to 5hrs.

Wondering if any of you tech heads had any idea if this held any promise for us Vegas users?

http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=7772 is another link about connected products...very cool stuff...

Nvidia's announcement probably won't mean much to Vegas users. The makers of Vegas have always pursued a strategy that relies on the ever increasing power of general CPUs.

There is another post somewhere regarding these new cards and using the GPU for processing. As I recall the answer was that using these GPU's for transcoding of specific formats would be faster than using the CPU but for rendering of video in the NLE environment, the CPU is needed. If I find the link I'll put it up.

elemental tech. from Portland using GPU's to speed rendering by 7X..

Is this what people are referring to ? A p-town start-up the RapiHD is due out in August for G80 and later nvidia gpu's, and only for Adobe Premiere Pro so far..the rest seem to be SDK's. Someone give me a heads up if they get more information, this is a much much cheaper rendering solution than the current top-of-the line solution (Quad-quad core Barcelona's or evil empire equivalent). No word yet on SLI...

Both CUDA based.

There was a youtube video out there showing the tech (badaboom transcoder and the plug-in for premiere pro), but I can't find the link. Sorry !!
