WMV file question

Hi.

90% of videos that i put into vegas are in the form of WMV and thats fine. I do however have a series of effect videos called Riot Gear that I have wanted to use for several projects. I am new to video editing so dont know alot about the technical terms, so please forgive if i mistake any particular names.

The riot gear files are WMV but dont work in vegas. I use vegas pro 8.
When i import media to the project area, I just get the WMV file logo instead of the normal WMV preview where i can see which video it is. When i drag the riot gear WMV to the timeline, It comes up as a red box. But all my other WMV files work perfect.

My riot gear works in Windows movie maker ( i use XP pro ).
Although in WMM it onluy allows me to use one effect video from riot gear at a time.

I am thinking that maybe i have a corrupt copy of riot gear or maybe im missing a certain codec in that particular file.
I work in web development so i did have access to alot of software that the guys have used or do use in work. But I no longer work with those particular guys. So i have nobody around to help me with this.

Thank you in advance

The Riot Gear that I have are Quicktime files...if you purchased yours from the online store, you should have a CD. If yours are WMV files, I wonder if they are bootleg. WMV is not a typical choice for these kinds of files in my experience.

I have been looking the video copilot website and im going to buy it direct from them.
I hate the fact that somebody would would give me illegal copies that dont even work.

thanks for the advice guys.
Im heading now to copilot to buy a legit set of these effects.
