Rendering for iPod

I have a 4:3 project that a client wants to be able to load on his ipod. When rendering the project mp4 (Apple iPod 640X480) there is a flickering/stobing and pixelation problem. Is there any rendering setting that will help with this?

what is the source content? If it's HDV or DV...this shouldn't be, obviously. More info might help. We do a *lot* of rendering for iPods, and no problems at all that we've experienced.

The source is DV from a VX2100. I edited the video and rendered it to be burned to DVD using the DVDA default settings. That render did just fine. A few days later when the client asked if he could have a iPod version, I rendered the project again with the mp4 defaults.

When playing back on my pc with quicktime, I get what seems to be the video quality changing back and forth from good to some pixelation. That gives it a flickering look.
