splitting a 7gb file in half

I have a 7gb raw .AVI file taken from mini dv that I need to give a client. (he wants his raw footage on a data dvd).

When I tried to just render it in 2 halves as an uncompressed AVI it made 2 25gb files which is WAY larger than the original 7gb file.....

How do I just cut that AVI in half so I can burn 2 data DVDs?

I am using Vegas 8.0b

Don't render as UNCOMPRESSED. Instead, since you're starting with a DV file, render as DV. Just pick the NTSC DV preset (or Widescreen version - whichever is appropriate).

Uncompressed is MUCH larger than DV.

Right. Remember that DV actually is compressed already, just in-camera.
