Cineform and 720P60
 

Greetings and thank you in advance for any help or information you can give me.

I'm using Vegas Pro 8.0 and am trying to work with 720P60 files from a JVC GY-HD200u. I have a couple of questions though.

I was told that even though there is not a 720P60 format to choose, that if I move the footage into Vegas and select 60 frames progressive it will treat it as 720p60. Is this correct? And do I do this in the File/Properties section?

If this is correct, is the footage I import from the camera in HDV this footage or is it only importing it as 30p thus dropping every other frame?

And would purchasing the low end Cineform be a good idea to help with this?

Interesting discovery, I've never caught this bug before. Checking my HD110 60fps m2t capture in Vegas confirms your problem. Vegas shows it as a 23.98 fps file. Likewise, conversion with Cineform also shows this as a 23.98 fps file.

I've filed a trouble ticket with Cineform on this, will report back.

Thank you very much for the response. I greatly prefer Vegas, but this is a big issue if it is dropping half the frames on capture. Though, I don't really know how this would be possible as the footage is encoded that way and it would be an enormous effort for the software to do that in real time. Hmm.

Please post on what you find. I'm really interested in seeing if Cineform can solve my problems with this as 60p is a must for our distribution. If not, I have to go back to Final Cut which I am not happy about.

It's been a while back that I seem to recall this was posted, once before. The answer was that it really was 60 fps but only the header was reporting 24fps. But, when I open the 60fps files in edius or avid, it correctly reports 59.97 fps, so it can't be the file header. Opening the file in vegas and counting frames in a second of video shows 24 frames. As usual with Vegas, something is fubar.

Huh. Is there a way to manually change the header in Vegas so it treats it as 60p? I wish they would pay a little more attention to their work.

I am also very interested as I have just purchased a 110U and hope to use its frame rates in vegas...havnt even tried to cap yet. This will definately move me to AVID though...Final straw! (if true)

Don't think it's a vegas problem, exclusively. Avid is doing the same thing.

is it just labeled wrong or is it not 60p anymore. Must have 60p for slow mo. I just got my 110U today, still in box.

I'm embarassed to admit that I have been misleading on this issue. This morning I revisited and make this comment:
1-The HD110 will generate 60fps in m2t format, but, it's a 480p image format
2-Only the HD200 and -250 will generate true 60fps progressive 720p files.

Cineform correctly converts and reports the 480p 60fps footage, not a problem.

so no HD 60fps on 110U?
