Panasonic DVX100A
Please forgive me for not going though archives here - a very quick question on behalf of a stills photographer colleague if I may? Will Vegas work with files from a Panasonic DVX100A? (I don't know the camera or much about Vegas as I'm on a Mac)
Yes or No is fine. Thank you very kindly! Nick. |
It sure will.
As a matter of interest, Vegas was the first NLE to be able to natively handle this camera's 24p files. |
Vegas should work with the files, it works with most files i throw at it.
If you want email me a file so i can put it into vegas, then i can give you a definate answer. Do you know what format the files are ? Paul. |
Much appreciate the rapid reply, thanks to both of you.
Paul, I don't know much about the camera, it belongs to a colleague of mine, but I will pass on the kind offer and see if he want to send a few seconds to check. best, Nick. |
From what i can find out the camera is a few years old, and DV format.
If this is the case then vegas will work with it no problem. The best thing for your friend would be to download a trial of vegas, different flavours here Sony Creative Software - Vegas Pro 8 - Vegas Family Comparison Paul. |
vegas works with almost anything especially any minidv corder...i have a dvx100a...
|
Thanks for that Matthew.
Taking this further: Before I suggested Vegas, my colleague had in mind to try Pinnacle, something that I have never heard of. I understand that he has a trial of Vegas now, but any opinions on one app or the other? Nick. |
Pinnacle is a consumer oriented product. Vegas Pro is professional oriented.
If money is an issue consider Vegas Studio Platinum Edition instead of Vegas Pro. The former is around $119, the latter costs a few hundred more. Vegas Studio products act and look the same as the Pro Versions, but have less flexibility. For most projects, you won't need the Pro Version. If it is of any help, consider I just finished helping a friend to transition from Pinnacle to Vegas. Pinnacle is hugely popular, but when you are ready to grow into a professional product you will have to leave Pinnacle entirely and learn a new application. If you start with Vegas Studio Platinum you can upgrade to Vegas Pro. |
Thank you Jeff,
This answers the question concisely - exactly what was needed. Vegas it is! Best, Nick. |

I've got a copy of Pinnacle studio 11 plus, you can have it. It doesn't even compare to vegas, even the cheaper versions of vegas. Paul. |
Thanks Paul,
Don't worry, my colleague has listened to, and appreciated the advice from all - he had downloaded the Vegas trial, but I suspect that someone else had mentioned Pinnacle. I understand that Vegas Pro has been ordered on the back of Jeff's reply. Thanks again everybody! Nick. |
