Windows 7 vs Vegas round 1

Hi all,

I'm experiencing problems during video rendering, in Windows 7 beta 64 bit. I use Vegas 6.0. The thing is, as I figured out, that single process can use only approximately 1.2 GB of physical memory. I happen to buy 6 GB trying to solve this problem but it seems that no matter how much memory I have, when Vegas reaches 1.2 GB it freezes and crushes. It seem to be the software limit in all Windows operating systems as I read somewhere. I think it would be same in Vista.

There is some parameter in Task Manager called Peek Working Set (Memory) that when reached and exceeded by any process (or program; i.e. I noticed that some games crushed same way) with their memory usage (i.e. Working Set (Memory)) program or game freezes and you can close it by ending their process.

I don't think that Vegas itself is problem but operating system seem to be.

Some folks said that Video in Vegas should be divided into smaller pieces and rendered one at a time. It seem to be only solution for now.

I realize that Vegas is one hell of a pro software but I think 6 GB of RAM should satisfy it. Or am I wrong?

Well, one thing you may have to consider here is that you are running a Beta OS, in 64-bit mode, with a piece of software that is two generations old. I wouldn't be surprised if you were going to run into problems with this combination. From most of what I've seen around here, people are not having such problems with Windows 7 and Vegas 8

Ivan, I'd try with Vegas Pro 8.1. Vegas 6 doesn't even support Vista - let alone a beta 64-bit OS.

Ok, thanks, I know it is a bit old, I'll try to do it.

Ivan, just for the heck of it try downloading the demo of 8 and see how that does. If you have the same problem then you know it is your older version. The two versions will run fine together, so your old version will not be hurt in anyway.

Where can I find the right one?

There is no trial for 8.1

For 8.0c, go here: Sony Creative Software - Download: Vegas Pro

how long is it until it expires?

Edward Troxel February 15th, 2009 01:19 PM

I believe it's 30 days.

Late to post, but VegasPro 8.0c and 8.1 work fine with Windows 7 64bit beta....
