720p60 blurry from Sony Vegas 8.0c
 

Hi,

I've recorded in 720p60 on my Sony EX1. When I write the Sony Vegas 8.0c project to MXF format in 720p60, the file looks great when played by VLC Media Player. I'd like to convert to 720p30 and 720p24, but those MXF files look very blurry. I've just been changing the Render As output format. Are there other places in Vegas to enact this change? I was hoping that the p30 version would be every other frame from the p60 stream. It appears that the frames are blended in some way. There is an Deinterlace method in the projects settings which I've set to None, but that parameter is only for, well, interlaced fields in the source material, right?

Perrone, I love the look of your videos. Highly creative. I looked at the speed ramp test you mentioned and see some of the same blurriness, on the arms and edges of the weight during the motion.

VLC Media player will handle both, although it doesn't do the audio for the 720p60 file. These speed test files include some reversed video at the start and a half-speed segment in the middle. Do you notice the motion blur most on the 720p30 file during the profile shot of the swing? The 720p60 file remains generally crisp throughout. I shot the video in 720p60 with a shutter speed of 1/125.

Right click on the clip you're changing speed of, choose properties check "disable resample". Does that help?

Sami, you're a Sony Vegas genius ! That was it. Thank you! For others reading this thread, I rendered the 720p60 project to a 720p60 MXF file because the SmartRender indicated that most of the clips were not recompressed. Then, I made a new project with that MXF file, Right Clicked on the video clip to bring up the Properties dialog box for the "Disable Resample" option. There is still some blurriness, but I'm pretty sure that is due to my use of a 1/125 shutter speed as it looks like the motion blur of a DSLR at that shutter speed. If anyone wants to see the results, let me know, and I'll find some server space.

NOTE: For Sony EX1/XDCAM users, upgrade ClipBrowser to V2.00.01.003 AKA V2.00.01. The previous version exported the audio as silence for MXF for 720p60, although not for the other formats I've tried. If you store your files as MXF instead of the XDCAM MP4, you can destroy all of the audio, as I did for one session.

Glad to hear it worked! I had the exact same problem a few days ago and it took quite a while to figure it out :)
