FCP mov files in Vegas 8

Hello everyone. Hopefully there's an easy answer for this. I have some mov files that were used in FCP. I need to use them in Vegas Pro 8c to mix with HDV footage. So far I haven't found a way to get Vegas to recognize the files. Does anyone know of a, hopefully free, program that will convert the mov files to an HD file that Vegas will recognize and allow me to use in my project? I don't have access to FCP to have them transcoded to another format.

Thanks,
Garrett

What codec were they in when they left FCP?? If it was ProRes, you're in business. All you need is the latest version of quicktime on your PC and you can read the files. If it was something else, then you need to find out what the format was, and then we can see..

Open the file in quicktime and see what the inspector says the codec is.

Thanks for you reply Perrone,

I have the latest version of QT loaded but it still is not working. Here is what it says when I pull it into QT and use the inspector:

Format: HDV 1080i50, 1920 x 1080, Millions
16-bit integer (littel Endian),Mono 48,000 kHZ
16-bit integer (littel Endian),Mono 48,000 kHZ
Movie FPS: 25.00

Apparently one of the things I'm going to have to do is also convert from PAL to NTSC. Any ideas on that workflow as well would be greatly appreciated.

Hopefully I'll be able to get this footage to work somehow.

Thanks,
Garrett

Anybody have any ideas why these files aren't coming into Vegas 8c?

Thanks,

Garrett

What do you mean by you "can't get Vegas to recognize the files"?

Here's what I do to edit VOB's ( which are also "not recognized" by Vegas)

Simply go to Import, and where it says the type of file you want, it should say something like "All Media Files", well, hit that, and scroll all the way to the top to "All Files", and then double click your FCP MOVs.

That's how I've done all the VOB editing, and it's worked alright for me!
