rendering time
 

this is the first time I have rendered a continuous piece of video longer then 45 minutes. Its 53 minutes, 1080 24p, with only one effect (timecode). its slated to take 3hr 55min. is that average?

oh, I am running 2.4ghz, quad core, 4gb ram, windows XP, vegas 8.0c.

The best answer we can give is "maybe".

It could be normal but would totally be based on your source video type, your distination video type, any effects added/how many effects added, etc...

Yes, I'd say about 4:1 render time with 1080p is pretty normal. I usually get 6:1 on 1080/24p but I have less hardware than you.

Keep in mind that this FX affects every single frame in the video so the render time quoted would be normal.

Also, are you rendering to the same drive your OS and video clips are on? That will extend render times, as well. Ideally, you should have one drive for your OS and applications, one for your media clips (audio, video, images) and one to render finished projects to. At the least, you should have two drives in an edit system to prevent problems that affect your OS drive from affecting the drive you store your video on.

I was annoyed how long my time code renders too as well, then I realized a timecode effect changes every single frame so there isn't really an single part of the render that is quick and easy (and I'm still working in SD!)

thanks for all the replys. I do have multiple drives, so I wasnt concerned about that, I think it has a lot to do with the effect. I wasnt too worried about the length of time, just wanted to be sure it was acting normal.

What's up IAN?Have u ever tryed to take off the effect from the clips?
R u rendering the final format in cineform or what?

HD Render projects of 50 minutes or more in Vegas took nearly 3 1/2 Hours for me with my Q9550 Quadcore, but since I moved to a i7Core 920 the same project now only takes 1 hour 10 minutes....The new i7Cores are monsters in video rendering......

Basically I tranfered my AVCHD footage from my HG10 Canon camcorder, edited in Vegas 8, adding cuts, transitions, fades, credits,ect, ect , I then render in Vegas using Mpeg 2 with Blu-ray template 1440x1080, thus allowing me to use DVDA pro for my menu and disc burning... I believe my total camcorder concert project was 1hr 30 minutes with a render time of 1hr 10 minutes in vegas, another 30 minutes for DVDA to build the menu's and burn the blu-ray disc ....Time line is basically the same when tranferring the same project to regular DVD.........
