Jesper,
When playing back footage from the timeline Vegas outputs the audio through PC's sound card (if you have one). Only when printing to tape does it route the audio over the firewire bus. What I do is have a cable running from my sound card to my TV as well so that I can use that when playing from the Vegas timeline.
