Finishing up first commercial edited in Vegas
 

I'm now finishing up the first comercial I've ever shot. Until now I've always done wedding videography, and documentary/short-film work. The music was composed by a musician friend of mine- very very talented- has 2 Carnegy Hall appearances. He's the guy who did the entire score for our Eat! documentary. It's not completed, however- I still need to color correct, edit audio a bit, and add text and visual effects.
I unfortunately don't have any webspace- YET....but I'll get there- so maybe someone can give me 4megs of webspace to upload it for a short while to show you guys.

I agree with Joe as long as it is within Kelly's file size limit (I don't know what his limit is) but 4 Meg isn't very large.

How long is this commercial? I try to keep my web encodings at about 2 Meg / Minute meaning a 30 second commercial would be about 1 Meg in size.

What sort of compression would allow that? I want a video size of at least 320x240 and decent audio quality.

Rendering in Vegas to WMV I get 320x240 with decent audio. Go to www.jetdv.com, click on weddings, and then on samples and pick any of the entries that don't specify 56k. These are about 2 Meg per Min.

Thank you- it's my first attempt at a commercial. It was definitly different only having 30 seconds to work with. I'm so used to editing for weddings with an indefinite amount of program lenght. I found I had to keep going back and tightening it up. You don't realize how short 30 seconds is untill your neck deep in editing. I had to cut a couple of shots I wanted in there- including a much nicer rack focus shot- though it didn't fit the commercial.
Hopefully this can spark another avenue for work. I'd love to do more commercials....a nice departure from wedding videography. I see so many really bad local commercials I can't help but feel I can do a much better job. Music definitly helps. It's an asset having a friend who's a musician. If I decide to stop using licenced music in my wedding videography I might use my friends work instead. He's an incredible artist, his talents in music dwarf that of mine in videography and design.

Try reencoding it in Windows Media format using the 1Mbps setting and see how you like the result. On the video tab, make sure the "quality" is all the way to the right and you turn ON two-pass.

See how the two compare.
