I would like to take 1bout 15 minutes of video and super accellerate it so it takes 15 to 20 seconds.

the keystone cops effect.

When I use velocity envelopes or play rate it really isn't fast enough.

any nsuggestions???

Velocity Envelope will give you 300%. The Playback Rate (either in Properties or by holding down CTRL and resizing it smaller) will give you up to 400%. Combined, you can get up to 1200% (or 12x).

If you need faster than that, render it out, put that on the timeline, and apply the Playback Rate and Velocity Envelope again. Go up to 12x again and you will now have a clip at 144x.

You could put it in a nested project and speed that up.

Agreed - a nested project would eliminate the need for the intermediate render. Either way, to get above 12x you either need to render, nest, or actually chop out frames.

There's also Time Bandit which is a part of Veggie Toolkit.
It's $80 U.S. but the folks I know that have it LOVE it for all it's different tools.

I just sped up a clip about 90x using Excalibur as well. I took a clip that was 38 minutes and 23 seconds long and run the "Strobe" tool. I told it to keep 1 frame, delete 3 seconds. I then ran the gap/overlap tool to remove the 3 second gaps. Ending timeline was 25 seconds 10 frames. So... many ways to accomplish really fast speeds.

The nested idea and the rerender work great. play rate worked best.

I ended up speeding up 144 times

And here is an example of a sequence sped up almost 700 times!

To be honest, I had a head start in that I shot the footage using the interval timer on my XL2, so it's maybe not completely fair for me to try and compete with the other time-compression feats achieved here!

This is footage shot over 11 hours compressed into 1 minute using the standard Vegas 4 x 300%. It shows the very first theatre production 'get-in' at the brand new Live Room at Twickenham Stadium. (Annoyingly I didn't get the aspect ratio right for uploading to YouTube.) The corrected version is to be shown on the Rugby Football Union website and I'll change the link (if I remember!).
