60i footage to the web

Need advice - Footage looks like it's being viewed from a dirty glass.
For the past week I've tried many methods to make this interlaced footage look good on the web.
AVC baseline, cavlc, 29.970, progressive, 10 mil
Same as above with main and cabac. 4 mil, 10 mil, 6mil bit rate.
I've tried rendering to AVI with cineform deinterlace, then dragged it back to the time line and rendered to AVC, and WMV, both cbr double pass and quality vbr. Also tried the same with Sony YUV prior to dragging back to render as AVC or WMV.
I've removed the smart resampling and rendered infinitum for the past week.
For this clip I rendered with the smart resampling disabled, as WMV, cbr double pass 90%, 6m bits, 30 sec keyframe, 1280x720.
On the timeline the properties are set to 1280x720 30p, progressive, interpolated 32bit.
Filmed in HD with the Canon XHA1. The footage always looks great until it's uploaded to the web.
I'm wondering if there is some magic bullet to keep the crispness, or maybe I just need to film in 30F.

I often render from 60i from my XHA1 to 720-30p wmv in Vegas 8. I agree your shots are really missing a lot of detail, much more blotchy and pixelated than they should be. Granted, fast action content doesn't play as well on web (I use Vimeo) as slower material. I can't see the surfers face at all, it looks like he's has a pair of hose over his face.

Why don't you try rendering to 720-30p or .mp4 and uploading it free to Vimeo and seeing how it looks there?
