Sony Vegas Pro 8 60i to 24p When Editing?
 

I have two Sony V1U cameras. I recently started using a Glidecam and Camera crane with them and immediately noticed that the rolling shutter was causing the dreaded "jelly" effect when taping in the 24p mode I have been using since owning the cameras.

Switching to 60i eliminated this issue but I am wondering if after editing the 60i footage in Vegas 8 Pro if I can then render it as 24 p to gain back the more filmic look? If not is there some other method to do this?

Also when editing 60i what "deinterlace" should I choose on the project tab? Mine has been "none" since I previously was shooting 24p but I am guessing I should be using "blended" now?

Default settings for interlacing are what you should use, except you should render progressive for movies that are being used as a DVDA menu movie to avoid DVDA from re-rendering.

To get a 24p look in post Ultimate S has a 24p conversion tool, but I've never used it. You can also use Cineform for a 24p processing I beleive, but I'm not sure.

Rendering 60i footage in Vegas using a 24p setting will not give you a 24p look, I don't think. I believe your footage needs to be converted to 24p first then edited. I could be wrong.

If your cam shoots 30p you might try that, as I've heard it is a nice compromise between 24p and 60i.

New Blue has some very nice filmic effects that might help you as well, though I only use them on a section of a video at a time, never an entire video, as any one film effect does not look right on all types of footage.
