Basic Project Settings HDV vs SD advice Please

Im still pretty new to Vegas... (about 1 year) When I do a new project with my canon GL2 I always select the 720x486 setting in New Project.

What should I be setting for my Canon HDV camera when I use the footage from this camera? 1280x720, 1440x1080, 1920x1080????

I want a really High Quality video to burn to DVD, Web upload etc...

What if i do a multi cam shoot where one cam is HDV the other GL2?

I assume that when i capture from the camera to the puter it is brought in at the highest quality possible correct?

Thanks...

Dave

Generally, you want to set the project to reflect your output target, i.e, if going to DVD widescreen, use the NTSC DV Widescreen project preset. Vegas doesn't have a problem using mixed sources - but if one of your sources is widescreen and one is not - you'll need to make some creative descisions.

David, not sure if that is a typo, but the GL2 project setting should be 720x480 for NTSC DV footage.

As long as you capture DV format AVI (from the GL2) or MPEG2 format M2T (for the HDV cam) through firewire you will get the maximum quality.

You'll want to edit the HDV footage in a 1440x1080 project. For mixed footage probably best to edit it in a NTSC DV or NTSC Widescreen project.
