Capturing question

This is the first time I have captured video from tape, using a Sony GV-D1000 deck. (Previously video was transferred from a FS-C) I believe I have done it per the protocol in the manual, and the clips come in as *.sfvidcap, which are subsequently not viewable in the Explorer tab nor will they open using Vegas. I looked on the Sony site and find no guidance there.

What am I missing here, please? Thanks, and apologies in advance for the newbie issue.

Bill,
Have you tried changing the extension to .avi?

Bill Spearman July 19th, 2009 04:32 PM

Yes, but still will not open in either Vegas (Pro 9) or Media Player.

*.sfvidcap is the capture utility log file, not the actual captured files.
if you didn't change the capture storage location, then start up VidCap (the capture utility) again and look in Options > Prefs > Disk Management to see where your captured files were saved.

If I may suggest a workflow, create a master folder for each new project and place ALL media related to this project in that folder.
Create as manu subfolders as needed to keep yourself organized.
For example, subfolders could be captured video, music, graphics, voice-overs, etc.
The storage location for captured files can be changed in VidCap as described above.
One important thing to remember is that it defaults to the last used location so, if this is a new project, delete any/all old locations and create a new one.

That appears to be the answer. I was unable to locate a useful reference to vidcap and was lost. With your suggestion this grateful noob found the files. All of them, from trying several times to get it right :) Thank you as well for the workflow suggestion - I sincerely appreciate it and welcome all the input/suggestions I can get from those with more experience. This is hard enough without me making it harder through my lack of knowledge. Thanks to all!
