DVDA- Render

What are the pros and cons of rendering a project to the same drive you have your project on?

*** This is the first time I've rendered a project to the same drive as the project folder.

I have two 50 min DVD's- Using JetDV's settings. Project has lots of Curves and color correction. Fits on One disc, but renders in 11 hours.....No 3D

The second DVDA project renders in 23 hours lots of curves and color correction, no 3D....yikes.

1. Is it best practice to render to another drive? MPEG2 for DVDA
2. Do these times seem out of whack?

I've seen 90 min projects render out in 5 hours before......

Thanks,

As long as this isn't your OS/Programs drive, that's not a big deal.

You'll get marginally faster renders by going to a separate drive but, as mentioned above, if this isn't your OS/Program drive, it's not mandatory to do it this way.

2. Do these times seem out of whack?

It depeends on a lot of things with your CPU speed being the most important.
Stronger CPU = faster renders.
Are you using any other FX besides lots of curves and color correction?

Mike,

I am rendering on an external HD (5400 rpm's)

Thanks,

Thomas, it'll definitely be slower with a 5400 rpm drive.
I'm not sure by how much as I haven't used one of these drives in years.
Hard drives are so cheap these days that it's worth it to get a new one just for this purpose.
