Sundance's Vegas Render Test....

Just completed Sundance Media's Vegas render test and ended up with a better time than the best posted. I completed the render (with no changes what so ever to the generated medai) out to DV-AVI (default NTSC template) in 00:56 seconds.

I'm running a P4 3.0ghz w/800mhz fsb, 1 gig of Corsair dual channel ULL (ultra low-latency) PC3200 ram, and rendering out to a Maxtor Diamondmax Plus9 Serial ATA drive.

Not that I'm complaining but..why is this configuration the "fastest" documented so far- am I missing something?

Glenn Chan October 4th, 2004 09:22 AM

those results are old. fastest platform right now should be overclock presscott-core pentium. dual xeons shouldn't be that fast at rendertest (because of the way it's designed).

2- Check that you are rendering at BEST quality. :56 is way too fast.

3- low latency RAM timings make no measurable difference at all. I tried. Hard drive fragmentation could make a second or two difference.

Folks sorta stopped sending in their render times.
Maybe we need to run another 'awareness campaign' or something.
BTW, notice that there is a new contest happening...watch your mailboxes for a notice on this.
The All Things Vegas pages are growing day by day with over 700 Vegas resources up there now!

Sorry- yeah I rendered at "good".

Just tried it at "Best" and got 1:29

wierd..
im running am Abit IT7 Max2 mobo, Northwod core p4 3.2 HT, 2 gb ram, sepereate capture drive renders to seperate master render dive, with a seperate system drive.

3 tracks 2 clips,
T3) colour correction on the first, BW filter on the other (no transition)
T2) one generated title (small static on off)
T1) 16:9 mask (4:3 footage) strecthed to PAL DV aspect within clip properties)

(T = track)

1 minute took 45 seconds.

25p progressive no audio

Changing the render format invalidates the test.....we run into that a lot.
It's already set up, just rendering to the NTSCDV template with zero changes. Changing ANYTHING alters the value of the benchmark.

Tried looking but came up empty. Where can I find the render test so I can put the new machine through it's paces?

Dug this back up... just got a little 4lb Centrino Laptop (1.7ghz)

Ran the render test-

1:44 on best

1:14 on good

not bad render times at all, considering....what kind of laptop is it, Glen?
I've been sorta surprised to not see you with an entry in the latest Vegas contest. With the vids I've seen from you, you'd have a great shot at it!

I went back to my roots....went with a good ol' Sony Vaio. S360 series. I was tired of the heat, weight, and size of my 17" widescreen bohemouth (Toshiba).

I'm going to run the render test on the P4 3.0 ghz Toshiba laptop to see how the little 1.7 centrino fends.

Vegas contest? I read about the editing contest at B&H this week but unfortunately it's a few days too late. I was in NYC on thursday for the WEVA Town Meeting and some much needed B&H shopping. Is that the contest you were referring to?

Guys,
help a blind man out and tell me where i can find the speed tests. I looked on the VASST site and couldn't see it. I'd like to see how the new mochine rates.

best regards,

Scott
