Automatic Crossfades
 

Hi all. Once clips are on the timeline, is there a script/command to set a 1sec crossfade to all clips?

Excalibur has one and I *think* UltimateS has one also. I also quite sure there's one out there floating around somewhere but I'm not sure where.

Until then you can place the cursor on the tail/head of the clip(s) you want to crossfade and press the "/" button on the number pad.

What if I didn't really want a crossfade, but a 1 sec fade to black on one clip, followed by a 1 sec fade in on the next? Does Excalibur or Ultimate S do that? It's the customer preference for transitions on this project.

I can't speak for UltimateS as I use Excalibur but Yes, it will do that. I use it all the time to do that and the opposite. Pull all the fades and dissolves and go to straight cuts.

Multicam, is as easy a 1 button (I routinely 2 and 3 cameras and have done 4) video wall, PiP, and many othr effects and helpful tools. IMO well worth the money.

Actually, there's a very easy way to do this without any third-party tools or scripts.

The key is that Vegas already lets you do this with any transition.

Any time you select a bunch of clips, or do a select to end of a bunch of clips, you can simply grab ANY transition and drop it between the first two clips and it will simultaneously go between ALL the selected clips.

Of course, there is no "crossfade" transition in the transitions folder. No problem, just create one. Go to the transitions folder "Cross Effects", modify one to have "no effect" and save it as "Cross Fade" and there you go.

Close but no cigar. The problem here is when you add the modified crossfade to the timeline, it doesnt move the clips one second forward but instead extends them.

So you're saying you want your out point of a clip to be the start of the crossfade and your next clip's in point to be the end of the crossade, thus making the overall project longer with each one... Versus having the clips head and tail extended creating the crossfade making your original in and out points the center of the crossfade...

Yeah, you're right that what I said would work in the latter way and not the former, just as the "/" key would work that way for converting a cut to a crossfade as well.

I'm sure there could be uses for doing it the other way, but I normally need it this way when I want to add crossfades after an MCE edit that I made with cuts, for instance. Where I wouldn't want my project time to change and throw anything out of sync, but I just want to drop crossfades in at all the cuts.
