Magic Bullet LOOKS - convert first?

So I was messing with MBL a while back with the trial version. I was upset I couldn't get it to work in 2 NLE's that were supposed to support it AND with a graphic card that was more than good enough.

I happen to run into a post about MBL saying that footage has to be rendered FIRST from it's RAW format to something else before MBL's would open properly (I was getting Open Gl errors.)

I was wondering if those of you using MBL could confirm that?

what kind of uncompressed format - HD, SD, 24, 25, 50, 60, 30? I'll do a little test for ya.

When I capture I usually get mt2 files.

Sorry, sorry, sorry

Sorry, sorry, sorry - for some reason, when i read "RAW" i thought of "uncompressed", but you meant native format.

i can tell m2t works fine!

Jason McDonald September 15th, 2009 12:38 AM

OK. I've managed to get another trial working.
When in Vegas, does not allow me to open the 'edit' box. It will give me the Gl error message and close on me. This is with mt2 files.
THEN, I converted it using sony codec, brought it back into Vegas, and now it opens fine (With the watermarks across the front, which I never saw the first time around since everything would just go black).

So, what could be wrong here.
Running with a Nvidia GeForce 9600GT, WinXP, 2GB RAM, Triple-core AMD processor. Not sure what else would really affect this application.

m2t files are, as Mike says, fine. Your video card should be fine also.

- what is the exact wording on the OpenGL error messages?

- using the latest video drivers?

- are you using a recent version of Vegas that supports m2t (in other words, you can see them on the timeline and edit them normally, right?)

- might be a limitation of the trial?

- What version of MBL are you trying?

An OpenGL error occured while attempting to load the frame (fragment shader at -1:)

Yes. I am using Vegas 8.

I believe it says it has full functionality on their website but would be watermarked. I had no idea you would have to first render it to an avi then start editing with LOOKS

The latest one available on their website.

You do not need to pre-convert m2t files. That's not where your problem is.

From what you're saying, I'm not convinced the problem lies within Vegas or Looks and I suspect it to be an issue with your card or drivers. I have read a couple of suggestions that may or may not help:

1. Uninstall then reinstall the nvidia drivers.
2. Revert to earlier drivers.

Both seem to have worked for others. If you're able to get your hands on another supported video card for testing, that would also rule in or out problems with your 9600.

Out of interest, is it Vegas Pro 8.0c? What did you use to capture the clips? I assume you have this problem with any or all m2t clips?

Have you tried Red Giant support?

I will try this (It's 2am in Japan so I'll do that tomorrow.)

I don't have a card but I was hoping to get the same 9600 and use SLi. I don't have another card to test with on hand. I will look though. Perhaps a fresh install is needed.

Used Vegas Pro 8.0c to capture and this happens with any and all m2t files captured.

Yup, but no answer.

Mike Calla September 15th, 2009 06:20 PM

Be patient and wait for Red Giant to get back to you. MBL can be very temperamental - but once its working, its a dream!

Jason McDonald September 15th, 2009 11:29 PM

i emailed them months ago.

Ian Stark September 16th, 2009 12:38 AM

Might be worth posting something here : Toolfarm Expert Forums: Toolfarm Expert Forums :: Red Giant Plugins (Inc. Magic Bullet) I believe Magic Bullet people respond to posts, but couldn't tell you how quickly.

Perhaps as you're only using the demo you aren't entitled to support? That would seem a bit daft though, as presumably you aren't going to buy the product until this problem is resolved!

Mike Calla September 16th, 2009 01:18 AM

Actually in my experience (however it may have changed) when opening a support ticket with Red Giant, they do not ask for serial #s, so they wouldn't even know it was a trial. My first version of MBL was a cracked copy - yes i regularly use cracked software before buying - I needed support and got it, no questions asked

If you emailed, and got no response, why'd you stop? Keep pestering them!
