Workflow for quality
 

Iv captured all my vid and am dumping it into vegas. I need to then go to after effects for fine tuning. What codec should i use to get to after effects? avi im assuming. After im done with after effects is that were I should do the mpeg encoding for dvd? Im not worried about hardive space or time, just quality. Thanks!

Use Uncompressed AVI

What is the uncompressed avi labled as? microsoft dv? Im totally new to vegas...well editing in general. thanks

When rendering in Vegas, choose AVI as the type and Default (Uncompressed) as the template. Uncompressed should be a separate setting in AE as well.

Is there a particular uncompressed AVI format that will save time ?
DV is YCrCb, right ? But does VEGAS do its internal processing (video effects) in YCrCb or RGB ?

There is only one uncompressed format. So pick uncompressed if it is listed
in the program. Otherwise choose "none" when you need to select a codec
(AVI is a file format, not the codec).

That's a pretty good question.. if you want to do effects or compositing work after the fact, is it better to be using a YUV format or an RGB format (in After Effects for example)?

Lossless DV Codec
 

Try this codec. Saves a bit more space over uncompressed and is lossless in terms of quality.

Don't know if there are any issues with AE, but I've used it flawlessly with Combustion 4

Huffyyuv 2.1c works well for .avi stuff, microcosm for quicktime is 64 bit lossless.
