Out of sync problem

I do a lot of VHS to DVD transitions and am using Vegas 5 to edit and upload my video, and an AverMedia analog converter. When I upload the tape, the audio line is always longer than the video. I will match the audio up with the video, but as it continues to play, the audio grows out of sync again. What can I do to fix this problem. I contacted AverMedia and they could do nothing for me. Does anyone have suggestions? Thanks.

What does your Avermedia capture to? A DV file or a MPEG file?
If Dv are the audio properties a match for your project?
How many frames/time is the sync off?
Could you stretch the audio clip to match

Just to take the AverMedia out of the loop, can you do a PAss thru using another deive? Something like a DV camera? I can on my Canon. If you get the same result then it would point to there being a set up preference issue with Vegas and/or your PC - yes?

Somehow your Vid and Aud is being separated, interesting.

Done some surfing. Which of the AverMedia products are you using?

Mitch Buss April 3rd, 2005 09:51 PM

It is the Pro USB 2.0 and I know on the website there is a specific file to help the out of sync problem for this product, but they are for the program Movie Studio, which comes with the adapter. I tried uploading with the given software and the audio and video were in sync. (Forgive the boy band reference) The problem with that software is that the video looks really crappy. In response to Jack, it captures as an avi file. I do not know how many frames it is off, only that the audio captures more frames than the video, thus stretching itself longer. Anything else you guys can help me with would be great.

Mitch, is it possible to do the pass thru' experiment I said? Do you have a DV cammie?

Return the AverMedia. You don't want to capture via USB.

Buy a standard Firewire card. If you need analog inputs, get a convertor (like a Canopus ADVC100) or use a camera (with analog in and firewire out).

If you are capturing from a camera, is it a MiniDV camera? A MiniDV camera should have firewire in/out.

Yes, Edward, mine was a gentle way into inviting Mitch to recondsider USB aquire. We still don't know if Mitch uses a cammie OR just wants to aquire from just VHS - and ONLY VHS tapes - yes? Mitch may not be a videographer - just a VHS convertor to DVD "specialist" - yes? See what I'm getting at?

Understood, Grazie - reason I added the "analog" option. Bottom line - MUST get rid of the USB and stick with firewire.

Oh yes! No USB acquiring in this house, thank you very much . . oh no!

I cannot return the AverMedia unfortunately because it was given as a gift and has been used. And I do not have a DV camera unfortunately. I am looking to get one but I do not have the money at the moment. I am just trying to make do with this. Anything else you guys can offer me?

Do you guys have anything? I am in great need of some ideas to fix this.

Edward Troxel April 4th, 2005 08:13 PM

The best idea I have is to get rid of the USB and capture via firewire. But you've already heard that one.

Mitch, might I suggest that you contact again AverMedia OR ;ocate a USers forum for this product? I could be very well wrong, but I don't feel it is essentialy a Vegas5 issue.

Here is a Forum that is discussing another AverMedia product - it MAY give you some signposting.

You may wish to contact Sony and ask their tech people too! Try this Forum for another option to discover this particualr USB acquire - others might be using this method - I don't.

Here is the link to the Sony Vegas site:

Apart from this, I have no other solutions for you.

I can only reiterate that I have had 100% success using f/w connection from cameras and decks.

Grazie
