Capturing problems

I have vegas 6.0 and I'm having problems capturing from my XL2. Although, I have used my Xl2 on Vegas 4.0 and capturing was not a problem on it. I am clicking on the capture video icon to no avail, the eggtimer comes up briefly, but then nothing. Any advice...ASAP if possible, I have a deadline fast approaching and the sooner i can start the better,

cheers

Owen

Advice to get you going quickly: Capture using Vegas 4 since you know that works.

no can do I'm affraid. Vegas 4 got deleted to free up room when I installed Vegas 6. I (just for curiosity) captured some footage on Move maker and it worked fine...so the problem is in Vegas, not in the camera/connection! HELP!

What's the status of the new media manager? It is ON or OFF? Try switching it the other way and see if that makes a difference. I've heard of problems where people had it OFF that seemed to clear up when they turned it back ON.

I do a LOT of my capturing using Scenalyzer Live now. It works very well for that is is very inexpensive.

sorry to sound like a newbie but how do I go about turning media manager on/off?

Andriy Zolotoiy May 9th, 2005 08:35 AM

Goto Options/Preferences/General tab. In the end of General Preferences list there is option 'Enable Media Manager'. Try On/Off.
I have it Off and uninstalled Media Manager and MSDE completely, no troubles with Vegas.

i tried that and no luck at all! Any other suggestions

thanks

Following several failed attempts to get capture workingI bit the bullet and splashed (actually at that price it was more of a splish) and bought Scenalyzer Live. Very easy to use and very cheap, in my book, a good combo.

Thanks for advice

Owen

I agree. Scenalyzer is a small, inexpensive, great capture program with lots of features. One thing it does is capture 4-channel audio in one pass via firewire (most others do NOT do this) which is the main reason I bought it. However, I find myself using it more often.

Vegas 6.0a Fix

I had the same capture problems. There is an easy fix. You have to download Vegas 6.0a patch. After installing the patch, the problem went away. Everything works great now.

It's about 93mb in size.

I guess a bad assumption on my part - I assumed he was on 6.0a. There are MANY bugs in 6.0 that were fixed in 6.0a. If ANYONE is using 6.0, PLEASE upgrade to 6.0a NOW.

cheers guys! i had no idea there was a patch.

Edward, on a similar note, the upgrade from Excalibur 4.1 to 4.2 did not go smoothly. I kept getting the errors you described in the 4.0 to 4.2 path. I had to completely uninstall Excalibur, then install 4.2. Don't know how it did it, but it kept my registration number during the unistall/reinstall process.

Thanks for all the hard work on the toolset; love the pan capability added to the PBS tool!

Sorry to hear you had problems. You are correct that it will maintain the registration even through an uninstall/reinstall. Just makes it easier for YOU.

I was very happy with the way the new panning ability turned out. Hope you find it very useful.
